Rake, Cultivator (Alternative: Turning Fork) and a Trowel (Alternative: Shovel or Hoe).
Materials Required
Tarpaulin (Alternative: Newspaper) and a Water Supply.
Selecting your Bark
First of all, you must select what type of bark you wish to use, we recommend using a lighter bark for flower beds, and a darker bark for shrubs and trees.
Remove Existing Plants and Weeds
Before you can lay your bark, the area must be ridden of all weeds. This can be done using a trowel, hoe or a shovel.
Prepare the Area
Using a cultivator or turning fork, loosen the soil. Once loosened, use a rake to create a flat and smooth area where you will lay your bark.
The First Layer
Before you can lay your bark, you must lay tarpaulin on the area which the bark will be placed, or as a cheaper alternative, three layers of newspaper, dampen the newspaper to avoid it blowing away.
Laying the Bark
Empty your bark onto the desired area, and begin spreading it evenly across the full of the area. Once satisfied with your bark, provide it with water to help it settle.
