Geo-textile, Hardcore, String, Grit Sand, Cement, Sharp Sand and a Water Supply.
Geotextile Layer
You need to obtain a geotextile layer, this will prevent intermixing of the soil or clay and the hardcore. Place it as flat and tightly as you can, using bricks or a similar alternative to hold it down during wind.
Place the Hardcore
Now you have your first layer, you can begin to add the hardcore on top of the geotextile. Continue to lay hardcore to a minimum depth of around 150mm.
Compact the Hardcore
To compact the hardcore, you will require to use a vibrating roller, or alternatively vibrating plates. For larger areas we recommend using a roller.
Creating the Edge Restraint
To avoid block paving moving, the paving will need to be surrounded by either walls, fence or block pave edging. The blocks are laid on a semi dry mix containing grit sand and cement on a ratio of (3:1). Once mixed add water until the mixture is of a semi dry texture. Then begin laying the edge restraint.
The Drainage
A drainage channel will be required. Lay a bed of 3:1 mixture of sharp sand and cement and connect the channels together and tap down into the bed making sure the top of the channel is flush with the line.
Fix the New Manhole Cover
Mix up a combination of sand and cement using a 3:1 ratio, use a tight string line across the drive, the line will be at the height your block paving will finish as. Place the manhole cover outer frame onto a bed of sand and cement and gently tap into place until it is flush with your string line. Haunch both the inside and outside of the manhole cover outer frame to hold it in position and place the manhole lid in inside the frame
