Using a shovel, dig the area which will be cobbled to a depth of approximately three inches deeper then the average height of the cobbles, keep the bottom of the hole as level as possible. Tip: If the dirt is to tough to dig, water it with a garden hose and allow it to soak over the period of a day.
Prepare the Ground
Spread a three inch deep layer of sand across the bottom of the hole, this will leave enough room in the hole for your cobble if your measurements are correct. Use vibrating plates to compact the sand. Once compacted, use a garden hose across the sand and allow it to drain over a fifteen minute period. Repeat the compacting process again, providing more density.
Lay the Cobbles
Lay the cobbles on top of the compacted sand foundation, set the cobbles side by side leaving a gap of around a third of an inch between each cobble. Continue to lay cobbles until the area is completed.
Filling the Gaps
Fill the gaps between cobbles with sand. To ensure all cracks are filled prinkle sand across the top of the cobbles and brush it towards the cracks. When all of the cracks are filled, the cobbles will no longer be able to shift.
Cleaning Up
Once your cracks are filled, spray your cobbles and clean off any loose sand left behind.
