Materials Needed

Stepping Stones, Gravel and Sand

Preparation

First off you need to visual were your decorative stones are going to be placed, do this until you are happy with the picture you have, these stones will outline different parts of your garden so it’s best to overlook how the result will end up

Digging a channel

Once your happy with how your stones are going to look, dig a small channel to allow the stones to be placed firmly into the ground, your stones will get damaged if you have soil next to them over the winter as they will be pushed out of the way by the ice, to prevent this ensure that there is no soil that is level with the stones and give about an inch or two difference in height

Filling the channel

For the stones to be placed correctly spread gravel around the edges of the channel and then about an inch of sand in the channel you have created, make sure the sand is level or the stone will look out of place. Once you’re happy with the level and height of the sand then you can place your stones down, once the stone is in place remember to tamp it down so it will be placed firmly in the ground

Making sure the stones are level

Once the stones are in place adjust them by tamping down where needed then by using a level measure the difference in depth and height. After you have finished this task you can now start to clean the area around the stones

Cleaning

Once your stones have been placed and adjusted in any way you see fit you will need to clean them to allow it to look its best, to do this use a standard cleaning brush and brush any excess: sand, gravel or soil. Once you’ve done this your stones are now complete
