Plant Fertiliser, Seeds, Mulch and a Water Supply.
Preparation
The ideal spot is sunny, sheltered and has well drained soil. Ensure all weeds are removed from the soil. Before you sow your seeds, spread a fertiliser on the soil.
Sowing the Seeds
The seeds are best sowed in spring; seeds are best sown in rows kept 30cm apart, sow seeds to a depth of around a centimetre.
You can alternatively buy ready-grown plants which arrive as young seedlings during late spring.
After Care
Ensure your leek is well looked after, ensure no weeds develop near your seeds. Keep your leek well watered especially in dry spells. Mulch would assist in retaining moisture.
Harvesting
Leeks will be ready for picking in the summer. To harvest leeks, carefully lift them with a fork.
