The ideal spot is sunny, sheltered and has well drained soil. Ensure all weeds are removed from the soil. Before you sow your seeds, spread a fertiliser on the soil.
Sowing the Seeds
Begin sowing the seeds in Late winter, sow half a dozen seeds in each module of damp seed compost. Cover the seeds with a layer of vermiculate.
After Care
It is essential to regularly weed the area in which you are growing your onions and garlic.
Harvesting
You can begin harvesting when the leaves start to yellow and die back. Lay your bulbs in a dry and warm place for a fortnight to dry them out.
If onions develop thick necks, use them as soon as possible as they will not store well.
