Shallots must be planted with the roots downwards, and the tops peaking above the soil. Separate your shallots by six inches, and separate your rows by a further nine inches. Your shallots will divide and grow into a bunch of up to a dozen shallots. Shallots can be planted anytime between spring and autumn.
Harvesting your Shallots
Harvest your shallots on a dry day. To harvest, pull the clusters of shallot, remove the excess soil and leave them in a warm and ventilated area to dry out and cure for between five to ten days.
Shallots can be stored in mesh bags, if kept in a well ventilated location below 10 degrees Celsius; they can keep for over six months.
