How to install a doorbell

Tools Needed

Cordless Drill, Screwdrivers, Masonry / Wood Drill Bits, Combination Wire Cutting Tool and Hammer

Materials Needed

Doorbell Kit, Cable Clips and Bell Wire

Installing the Doorbell

Find a place close to your frontdoor and mark around your doorbell then fix in place. The bell push is connected by thin two-core wires, so try to fit the doorbell where the wiring can run straight into the house without cable exposure. Strip back the insulation from the two wires and connect them to the bell push. Finally, screw on the cover plate to the bell

Complete the circuit

It is likely that the bell and its battery will be in the same box. If this is the case connect the two wires to the two terminals of the battery unit

Put the cover on the unit

If your wiring a mains-operated doorbell, you will need to put the transformer as close to the door as possible. Once you have done this, you should follow the wiring instructions from the manufacturer. You can buy extra two-core insulated bell wires from trades supermarket

Fix the wire

You will need to run the thin bell wire along the top of the door frame and skirting board, fixing it with small plastic cable clips. Try to fix the wire as neatly as possible so it is not as visible
