Tools and Materials Needed

Pipe Boss, Solvent Cement, Hole Saw, Large Slotted Screwdriver, Pencil, Drill Driver (or Corded Drill), Pilot Bit, Old Rag or Cloth.

Marking the Hole

Mount the pipe boss onto the soil pipe in its intended position. Make sure that the boss is at a 90⁰ angle to the wall that the soil pipe is fixed to. Mark the outside of the hole with your pencil and then remove the boss from the soil pipe. Find the centre of the hole and mark it.

Drilling the Hole

Take your drill and pilot bit and drill a hole in the soil pipe where you made your centre mark. Put the hole saw into the drill and then, using the pilot hole as a guide, drill out the soil pipe. Use a rag or cloth to remove any burrs from around the hole.

Preparing the Boss

The boss will come in two parts – the part that straps around the pipe and the reducer that the waste pipe locates into. Ensure that the reducer is up the right way as it has a slight gradient to help the water run-off. This is usually indicated by a small notch. Take some solvent cement and brush some both onto the inside of the boss and around the inside of the reducer. Insert the reducer into the boss and hold for a few seconds. Wipe away any excess solvent cement.

Fitting the Boss

Brush some solvent cement around the outside of the hole in the soil pipe. Brush some around the boss where it fits around the hole in the soil pipe and a little way up the arms of the bracket. Place the bracket of the boss around the soil pipe and line up the hole on the boss with the hole in the soil pipe. Wipe off any excess solvent cement. Use your screwdriver to tighten the screw on the back of the strap.
