Chop Saw, Tape Measure, Rags, Pencil, Hole Saw, Plumb Bob, Drill and a Hammer.
Materials Required
ABS Drain Pipe, ABS Glue, Roof Sealant and Nails.
Planning the Route
Plan the vent pipe’s path to avoid material waste and take the shortest route. Avoid any electrical wires. Once you determine your route, mark the locations where holes and cuts will be made.
Creating the Vent
Build the piping in portions, use a hole saw to create your holes and cuts along your route. To cut your pipe, use a chop saw. To connect your pipe together coat the inside of fittings and the outsides of pipes that enter fittings with ABS glue. Press and hold the joints for approximately forty five seconds and wipe any excess glue.
Accessing the Roof
Cut the hole giving access for your pipe to reach the roof. Use a plumb bob to estimate the point at which the final length of pipe will pass through the roof. Mark the pipe's exit position on the underside of the roof sheathing. Drill a pilot hole through the mark with a drill and use a reciprocal saw to create the hole slightly larger then your pipe.
The Finishing Touches
Complete the installation of the last length of pipe. Dry fit, then glue and clean the final portion of the pipe. Install a roof jack over the vent pipe. Place the roof jack over the pipe and position it to cover the hole in the roof. The lower lip of the roof jack will overlap a shingle, while the top edge and sides of the roof jack will be covered by shingles. Nail the roof jack only on the edges that will be covered by shingles. Apply roofing sealant around the fasteners, edges and gaps between the pipe and roof jack.
