Tools and Materials Needed

Tarp, Sand Bags and a Ladder

Safety first

Before you go up onto the roof to take your measurements you should have a safety harness on to allow you to be safe, roofs can cause many accidents from people not being careful and falling off, remember “safety first”

Measurements

Careful and close measurements have to be taken on the roof’s dimensions this is to save out on costs, too much tarp wouldn’t be cost effective, too little tarp will not successfully cover the roof. For every piece of tarp you obtain, you will require 2-3 sandbags dependant on the size.

Laying down the tarp

To lay down the tarp, start by pulling it at one side and then put a sand bag when the tarp is at its straightest, repeat with the other side afterwards. Be careful when doing this, ensure you have a firm grip on the tarp before you pull, and if possible try to get another set of hands to assist you. Do this all over the roof; try not to overload it with sand bags.

Securing the roof

Make sure afterwards that none of the roof is showing and that the tarp has a full span all the way around the roof, this is a critical task to ensure nothing will happen to the roof on a rainy day.
