Tape Measure, Circular Saw, Builders Square, Sawhorses, Pencil, Drill, Screw Bits, Corner Brackets and a Spirit Level.
Materials Required
Timber, Screws, Wood Screws, Hinges and a Gate Latch.
Making the Measurements
Measure the area to determine the size which you gate needs to be. To do this, place one end of the tape measure at the fence post and stretch it across the opening to the opposite post. Then take a second measurement from the top of the post to the ground.
Obtaining the Timber
Purchase your timber based on the measurements you have just taken in sizes of 2x4.. Cut your boards appropriate to the size of the fence you are building.
Cutting the Timber
Use a circular saw to cut the timber into the required sizes. To fit the boards together, set the builders square to cut a 45 degree angle on each board to fit together and form the gates frame.
Connecting the Timber
Set the two boards on the ground with the two angles together. Screw the two boards together using four inch screws. Install corner brackets on the inside corners of the frame that you just created, do this using one inch wood screws.
The Gate Pickets
To calculate the length you need the gate pickets, place the tape measure at the top of the fench pickets, pull it down to the length for you require. Mark the measurements by softly using a pencil.
Cut your pickets with a circular saw on a saw board. Align the pickets to the frame of the gate and connect the pickets to the gate using two inch screws.
The Final Step
Now for the hinges, install them onto your frame using a drill. Place one hinge on both the upper and lower half of the frame. Secure the hinges to the fence posts and level it. Install the gate latch using a drill.
