Tools Needed

Rake, Water Sprinkler or Hose, Lawn Roller or Cylinder Mower, Seed Spreader (Optional).

Materials Needed

Soil, Sharp Sand, Water, Grass Seeds, Weed Killer (Optional).

Remove all Existing Plants and Weeds

To remove the existing weeds, there are two options, you can remove them by hand, or use a weed killer. To ensure no existing weeds are remaining and develop, it is best to observe the area over a period of between one and two weeks.

Preparing the Ground

The ideal ground will contain natural nutrients which your grass can feed on, once you have added your soil, mix in some sharp sand whilst maintaining the ground level.

Sowing the Seeds

Now your ground is prepared, sprinkle your seeds evenly across the ground. For added accuracy you can use a seed spreader. Once completed, a new layer of soil needs to be added to the area, and raked evenly on top of the seeds.

After Care

The seeds should germinate within a seven to twenty-one day period, dependant on weather conditions you may choose to water your grass, which can be done using a water sprinkler, or a hose with a sprinkler attachment, adding to much water, can cause the seeds to float, and interrupt the process. When the grass has developed to around one inch high, use a lawn roller or cylinder mower and gently go over the grass. Once the grass reaches around three inches high, you can start to begin cutting the grass when you wish.
