Tools and Materials Needed

Drill (if needed), Drill bit (if needed), Tape measure, Hammer, Screwdriver (if needed), Pliers or Wire Cutters, Pencil, Picture frame, Picture wire, Steel pins, Picture hook, Screw and Wall Plug (if needed), Plasterboard Fixing (if needed).

The Picture Wire

Start by threading the picture wire through one of the eyes on the frame. Twist the wire back on itself several times until it will hold when pulled. Repeat this on the other side of the frame, making sure that the wire is taught, but not too slack. The wire should not hang above the frame when on the wall.

Marking the Position

Note how far below the top of the picture frame the wire sits and write it down. Offer your frame up against the wall where you would like it positioned and mark the wall at the top of the frame. Measure down the wall the same distance as the wire sits (noted down earlier) and mark the wall again.

The Hook

Take a pin and your picture hook and tap the pin through the hook into the wall using your hammer. If the frame is heavy you may need to use 2 hooks to take the weight.

Hanging the Frame

Place the wire over the hook or fixing making sure that the fixing is central to the frame. Stand back and look to make sure that the frame is straight, adjusting accordingly. You may need 2 fixings if the frame is particularly large and heavy.
