Materials Needed

Lining Paper and Wallpaper Paste

Preparation

If you're wall currently has old wallpaper on it then remove this and let the wall dry then sand off any residue or little lumps. It is recommended that you size the walls by applying a thin layer of wallpaper paste with a roller or brush to prepare the surface which will allow the new lining paper to stick better. Now cut 4 to 5 lengths of paper a few inches longer than you need them and paste them all up on your pasting board. Make sure you paste right up to the edges to avoid the lining paper from not sticking. You will now need to fold both ends of the paper on itself to meet in the middle then fold them again in half. Leave the paper to allow the pastes to soak in then apply paste onto the other lengths, by the time you have finished the first lengths you will be ready to start papering

Hanging the Paper

Draw a vertical line on the wall using your long spirit level you should line up your first length with a pencil line. You now need to unfold the top piece of paper and hold it to the wall, just overlapping the top of the wall use your paper brush to smooth the paper and get rid of any air pockets, do the same with the bottom of the paper make sure you brush right up to the ceiling and into the skirting board. Now scored the top and bottom of the paper where it meets the ceiling and skirting with the back of your papering scissors. Gently pull the paper from the wall and cut along the score line then smooth back down, do the same around the room with the other lengths, when you come to doors and corners, brush the paper right into them and then score and cut then gently pull off the excessive paper, then smooth back down by using you're decorating brush

Papering around switches and sockets

Allow the paper to cover the fitting, then cut out a “+” shape from the middle. Afterwards peel back the cut loose pieces and cut them off, leaving a few millimetres of paper to tuck behind the fitting. Unscrew the fitting and pull it off the wall but do not completely remove it, just move it enough to tuck the paper behind it, afterwards smooth the paper and re-fit your fitting
