Step 1: Remove the lid from the tank, place the lid on the floor with a towel underneath it to prevent chipping. Adjust the flush chain if the flapper valve has a large gap when in the closed position.
Step 2: Press the flushing handle up and down whilst observing the flapper valve to see if it functions correctly, if it does not, the valve will need replacing.
The Toilet Will Not Flush
Step 1: To check if the chain is intact flush the chain, if the chain is moving more tightly or looser, then the chain is damaged. If this is the case you may be able to adjust it with a screwdriver.
Step 2: Remove the lid from the tank, place the lid on the floor with a towel underneath it to prevent chipping. Observe the fill valve to see if it's damaged, If it's not opening, your tank is most likely empty or low on water.
Step 3: Observe the ball cock valve and check the float ball is functioning, if the ball is damaged it will stay at a low position preventing flushing. If this is the place the ball will need replacing. Examine the flush chain’s length and adjust if it is to long to open the valve.
