First off before you start the most important step to avoid a hazard is to turn off the water supply all together for the time being. This will stop any accidents occurring.
Removing the Nut
To start off you will first need to get under the sink and undo the nut that’s holding the drain and the sink stopper together, you will need another person to hold the top of the drain whilst you remove the nut, and after you have done this you can then take the top of the drain and the drain itself off of each other.
Replacing the plug
Before you place the top of the drain back onto the drain itself you will need to place some plumbers putty around the base of the sink stopper to ensure no leakages will occur with your new drain.
Cleaning Up
Afterwards your extra pair of hands will need to grab the sink stopper whilst you screw the nut into the two to attach the new drain. Once the drain has been attached make sure you test if the new drain is working before you use it for real, ensure you also clean around your new plug to make sure you sink is clean afterwards.
