The colour of your surface goes hand in hand with the final appearance, before purchasing a flooring ask for a sample and see how it contrasts with the rest of your room.
Design
There are various designs to consider, dependant on the style of your home. Some options are timber, carpet, tiles and stone. There are various types of stone available such as sandstone, bluestone and even marble.
You can also consider rugs on the top of hard surfaces to get the practicality of a hard surface with the warmth of a carpet.
Colour
You need to consider how the flooring will suit your lifestyle and how much traffic you have throughout the area. If you have children, or regularly entertain then a harder surface will suit you best as it is easier to clean, and shows less signs of aging. Lighter and softer flooring will show stains and dirt easier, and is more difficult to clean.
Areas such as hallways and lounges have a lot more traffic so are usually hard surfaced. Bathrooms and kitchens are the same however this is due to water proofing.
