Tools Needed

Plasterers Trowel, Hawk, A Few Buckets, A Bucket Trowel, A Drill Driver, A Mixing Bucket, A Mixing Drill, A Specialist Float, Feather Edge, A Small Tool, Gauging Trowel, Saw, Tape Measure, Pencil.

Tools Needed

Some 2” x 1” Planed Timber, A Sheet of Plyboard, Some E.M.L, Screws and Washers, Coloured Render.

Step 1

So we cut our ply board down to 1800 x 1200 and attached it to our stud wall. We then put a frame around approximately 75mm in from each edge of the ply board. Then we placed our E.M.L mesh inside the frame by using our screws and washers, placing them around a 100mm apart.

Step 2

Now we’ve mixed our coloured render by following the guide on the packaging, and we are applying our first coat at about 20mm thick. Leave this to pick up a little.

Step 3

Now we're applying our 2nd coat. Once all that is on, we take our featheredge, and using our frame as a guide, rule off any excess render and then fill any hollows or deep lines and allow to dry for approximately 4-5 hours.

Step 4

Okay so now it starts to get tricky. As you can see, we're putting Tradessecrets.com into the coloured render. First of all, using a string line, we worked out where our letters are to go, then carefully, one at a time, we placed them into position and lightly went around them with our small tools to leave an outline of the letters.

Step 5

Now still using our small tool, we carefully remove the inside of the letters. Be very careful with letters like ‘e’,‘d’ and ‘a’, as they have inserts which you’ll want to try and keep in place.

Step 6

Now to get the colour we required for our letters, we colour matched them and got some exterior paint and mixed the two together. Now this is not recommended at all but we've used it purely for illustration purposes only.

Step 7

Once we have our chosen colours and are satisfied they are correct, we very carefully place them inside our letters with our small tool, working them into the corners and making sure there are no hollows. As you will see, we cut out around our hands and filled this up with a lovely blue colour.

Step 8

Okay, so we're satisfied our letters and hands are all filled. Now we're going to leave to dry over night.
